The work
Ashcombe Wharf reclaims a disused freight yard on the floating harbour and returns it to the city as a working street. Twelve former loading bays were retained and reglazed as maker units, with three residential volumes rising above them in reclaimed brick and board-marked concrete.
The site sat over culverted watercourses and a former fuel store, so the substructure was delivered as a piled raft with a full gas-membrane and remediation regime. Above ground, a lean panelised timber system let us close the envelope quickly through a wet Bristol winter.
The colonnade at street level is open to the public day and night, stitching the wharf back into the harbourside walk rather than fencing it off.
